Sony announces new UMD movie, clears up pricing

Sony Pictures today announced that the Academy Award-nominated "House of Flying Daggers" will be released on UMD along side the DVD release on April 19th. The UMD version will be priced at $28.95. Pricing was also set for the four previously announced films. "Hellboy", "XXX", "Once Upon a Time in Mexico", and "Resident Evil 2" will be priced at $19.95 each, which is expected to be the price of future UMD catalogue releases.

"The release of these hit action films for the PlayStation Portable marks an important chapter in the personal entertainment industry for our consumers and a new, incremental business for our business partners," noted Marshall Forster, Executive Vice President for SPHE North America. "SPHE is delighted to be part of the introduction of this remarkable entertainment technology to the home entertainment market."

Additional UMD titles are scheduled to be released monthly thereafter. These UMD releases will include a mix of day and date titles priced similarly to their respective DVDs and catalogue titles priced at $19.95.
