Gamefly launches UMD movie rentals

Gamefly has become the first major company to offer UMD movie rentals through the mail.

Gamefly has just added a huge selection of UMD movies for the PSP that can be rented just like the company's video games — you pay one flat monthly fee, rent as many titles as you want with pre-paid mail both ways and no late fees.

Gamefly, which has been offering PSP games rentals since the device launched in March, currently has 125 movies listed in its system (some have yet to be released). Like other platforms, you can sort and view the UMD movies by popularity, alphabetical, release date, or GameFly rating.

Netflix and Blockbuster, the two most popular online/mail DVD rental services, said in April that they had no immediate plans to launch a UMD movie rental service.

Subscriptions to Gamefly start at $13.95 a month. A 10-day free trial is also offered.
