Sony loses about $100 on every PSP it sells in Japan, according to those close to the matter. Each device sells for 19,800 yen and reportedly costs Sony 30,000 yen to make as of right now. "Continuing strong demand will mean Sony can work on lowering production costs and, probably by next business year, they will make a profit from each PSP," says Kazuya Yamamoto, an analyst at UFJ Tsubasa Securities Co. in Tokyo. Sony said it plans to boost PSP production to 1 million units a month by April, then to 3 million.
