Region-Code-1For those paying attention to the back of your new PSP games, most of them sport a region-coding number (US is region one). Now that the US games are finally out, it's officially been tested and confirmed that PSP games are not tied to the region the PSP came from. That means that those of you with new North American PSPs can play imported games from Japan on your new PSP. For the early adopters out there with Japanese versions of the PSP, you can run down to your local retailer and play any game you see on your unit. Sony didn't leave the UMD movies unlocked, however, so there will be no interoperability between US movies and Japanese PSPs or vice versa.

What would be the point in putting a region lock on a format that is specifically designed for a particular medium. I dont see the logic behind having PAL/NTSC format. Worse part is I own a 1000k version of the PSP and need to buy the US spec 1001k to watch movies on it.

That's because you aren't dealing with the gaming industry anymore. You are dealing with the movie industry. And you know they have a tendency to be a bit protective ;)

Region codes are a waste, and they absolutely do not seem to have a purpose other than to frustrate people.

Is there region coding for games with the UMD logo on the disc case?
