Gamers wait hours to be first in line for PSPs

Richard-RothHundreds of game enthusiasts lined up yesterday in the cold and rain at the Sony launch events in New York City and San Francisco. Celebrity host Carson Daly, DJ Danger Mouse, and Sony Computer Entertainment America president Kaz Hirai kicked off the midnight event at the Sony Store in New York. According to reports, Gus Dakis, who arrived before 8:00 a.m. Wednesday at the store, was the first in line and the first to purchase a PSP in the U.S.

Meanwhile, over 500 gamers showed up at the San Francisco event at the Metreon center, including on man who stayed overnight to be first in line. Richard Roth (shown right) arrived at the Metreon the day before (Tuesday) at 8:00 a.m., and stayed over 40 hours until he was walked inside to buy his PSP at midnight Thursday. Roth said he was "relieved, sad, excited, hungry and tired", adding, "The experience has been so good. The hyping has been great and I've been treated very well."
