Yet Another PSP Hardware Revision for Monster Hunter 3

At the Tokyo Game Show today, Sony and Capcom revealed a newly-designed PSP that will accompany the launch of the game Monster Hunter Portable 3rd in Japan. Both the game and the new PSP will be available together as an exclusive bundle starting on December 1st. The Bundle will be priced at 19,800 Yen, or around $235 USD. for that price, expect it to contain some additional goodies besides the new PSP hardware and the game.

The specially designed Monster Hunter 3 PSP (pictured below) looks very similar to a PSP-3000. But it contains a larger battery for extended life, handgrips on the back of the device and concave analog stick and buttons to facilitate long-term play. Some people (ourselves included) have devoted so much play time to this portable Monster Hunter franchise that the new design changes make a lot of sense.

Cosmetically, the PSP also bears the unmistakable mark of the Monster Hunter franchise. The cross-media bar has been completely re-skinned with tribal Monster Hunter designs, and the speaker holes have been redesigned to look like Felyne paw prints. Regal gold highlights adorn the machine where regular chrome would normally appear.

There were no specifics yet on how much longer that bigger battery will last, but we expect something in the range of 30-40%, which would be fantastic.

But will this special Monster Hunter PSP make it to North America? We doubt it, given the history of Japan receiving its own bizarre accessories, special colors, bundles and special editions in the past. It looks like one for the hardcore fans and collectors only.
