What You Need To Know About Sony PS Vita 3G Connectivity

Even though the Sony PS Vita is getting extremely close to launch here in the U.S., there remains questions regarding the 3G version of the upcoming next-generation handheld, questions we are hoping we can lay to rest to an extent.

When you go to pick up your Sony PS Vita on launch day, you will be deciding if you want the Wi-Fi only version for $249, or the 3G enabled version which will cost you $50 more at $299.

What will the 3G version get you though if you go for that version over the standard Wi-Fi only version?

The 3G version is believed to be supported by AT&T in the U.S., as well as other carriers to be confirmed by Sony.

Similar to with the Apple iPad and other 3G enabled devices though, Sony has confirmed that there will be a download cap on what you can do over 3G with your Sony PS Vita.

The 3G enabled devices will be able to download games and applications with a cap of 20MB.

This is going to extremely limit the capabilities of downloading large full-scale games on the handheld. Downloading anything over 20MB has been confirmed to be something which will have to be done over Wi-Fi.

There are many other functions 3G will support on the Sony PS Vita beyond just Wi-Fi, including Internet access, chatting with friends, etc.

It appears though that getting a 3G enabled device will not completely free you to go totally mobile with your Sony PS Vita.

Does this news make you want to get the Wi-Fi version over the 3G version of the Sony PS Vita? Sound off in the comments and be heard!
