Website Claims to Offer Pirate PS3 Games for Download

Sony has long struggled with piracy on its consoles. From the relatively-easy to pirate PS2, to the debacle that was the PSP, Sony couldn't seem to catch a break. Armed with this knowledge, the company opted for a nearly bulletproof design for its PS3 console, intended to keep out pirates. Sony's efforts have definitely paid off, because competitor Microsoft has struggled with mod chips and game piracy cutting into that company's profits.

The main line of defense for Sony's PS3 has been its BluRay optical format. These disks are so new and able to hold so much data that conventional pirates can't reproduce them cheaply. Online downloads from the PSN seem to have held up as well, thanks to an authentication system built into the PS3's hardware. Modding the device has proven difficult, as it incorporates cutting edge microchip design that is not easy to circumvent.

Despite all of those advances, pirates continue to circle Sony's life raft mercilessly. Recent rumors suggested that Asian factories were producing new machines that could burn BluRay games, and that pirate copies of games have been showing up in street markets throughout the third world. Without independent confirmation we will chalk those up to rumor for now.

But it is clear that Sony won't be able to hold back the pirates for long. A number of new websites have cropped up which claim to offer download of full retail PS3 titles. For example, one such site claims to give its members 'unlimited downloads for your PS3'.

The site is cagey about exactly what it offers paying subscribers, but it claims to include new retail releases in all of the major genres. Could it be that pirates have finally cracked the PS3's defenses? Has anybody checked out sites like this to see if they are for real?
