Valkyria Chronicles 2 Story Explained in Video Form

The irreverence of Japanese anime for historical accuracy is what makes it so captivating, and sometimes so baffling to Western audiences. Take Valkyria Chronicles 2 for the PSP, for example. The art direction for this game borrows heavily from the iconography, costumes and architecture of WWII Europe. But it plucks these aspects out of any historical signification, so there is no danger of offending anyone (or having to deal with the most repulsive events of that war such as genocide and the intentional bombing of civilians). Instead, we are treated to a fairy-tale landscape, devoid of any references to real-world geography, but still vaguely nostalgic for a version of our history that never was. I could go on and on about this, but that would bore you. So why not turn your attention to the most recent trailer for the game, below, which explains the fictional background of Valkyria Chronicles 2.
