USB Mod Enables Piracy on PS3

Sony is obviously very concerned about this new development, which threatens the profitability of development on its flagship console. It;s not all bad news for Sony, However. Word on the street is that they will easily be able to detect and ban users who play pirated games over PSN, similarly to Microsoft's policy of banning pirates.

The PS3 has joined Sony's PSP on the list of video game consoles that allow pirates to run backup copies of games, and it's not a list that any manufacturer wants to be on. A new hack using the USB port on the PS3 hardware allows pirates to run backup games on both the PS3 Phat and Slim console varieties. Independent tests have confirmed that the hack really does work, circumventing the complex security measures that kept pirates at bay for so long. The product, called PSJailbreak, is currently on sale at a number of dodgy mod chip shops, but we anticipate that a free version will find its way onto the Internet rather quickly.
