UMD sales 'below expectations'

As overall sales of UMD movies fall below expectations, Sony, Paramount, and Warner are all cutting back on their UMD releases for the PSP, reports Variety. Comedies are doing well, while other movies simply aren't selling. To try and help the format, executives from SPHE have been showing off an adapter that would allow UMDs to be shown on TV screens.

"It would be a huge boost to (PSP movies) if we can arrange for the disc to play on TV players," said SPHE prexyprexy Ben Feingold.

The report also reveals that Sony plans to begin selling movies on its Connect digital media store in March.
