Square Enix PSP News Roundup

Square Enix has stepped up to show their continued support for the PSP. At their exclusive press event this past wekeend, the Japanese publisher unveiled some big plans for Sony's little handheld.

First, we got two new game announcements. The company decided that two titles previously slated for mobile phones would be making their way to the PSP. Final Fantasy Agito XIII and Parasite Eve 3 will no longer be tethered to import-only Japanese mobile phones. There is very little known about either of these games yet, and we are interested to know if they will be straight ports or entirely re-designed to take advantage of the PSP's capabilities. Parasite Eve began life as a successful RPG, before trasnforming into a less successful Survival / Horror game for the sequel. It will be interesting to see what the developers have planned for this PSP release.

In other news, Final Fantasy: Dissidia finally got a release date. The fighting-based spinoff will arrive this December, and will be accompanied by a special hardware bundle in Japan, similar to the one that launched alongside Crisis Core. This one is sure to sell a few more PSP units in a country that can't seem to keep their hands off of Sony's portable system.
