Sony To Offer 10 Free Games With PSP Go?

Its no secret that the PSP Go has suffered from sluggish sales. While the device looks great and has an appealingly small form factor, high price of both the hardware and its downloadable games have pushed consumers away. Sony has resolutely refused to lower the basic price of the device, claiming that the on-board memory and smaller size make it a "premium" product. At the same time, the cost of download-only games available on the PlayStation Network has often been out of whack with UMD prices. However, the company appears set to offer gamers another incentive to pick up the pint-sized PSP console: free games.

MCV reports that Sony will unveil a plan soon which will award recent PSP owners 10 free games for their efforts. The offer will entitle anyone who registered their PSP Go after April 1st 2010 to ten full game downloads. Titles are not just duds, either -- the deal will include hits like Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet, 2010 FIFA World Cup and Grand Theft Auto.

Edit: The video below confirms the 10 free game offer is real!

SCE UK sales director Mark Howsen revealed a scheme during an interview:

"On PSP Go we've decided to innovate with that particular business model. Next month we're launching a free ten game offer. And this isn't just older titles - we've worked with third parties and there's some really good core products. We're using it as a method to drive the hardware as well by making the whole proposition much more appealing."

So, does this sound like a desperate last-ditch move, or an offer you couldn't refuse? With 10 free games, it's almost as if they're giving the hardware away for free.
