Sony PSP Gains Starring Role in SingStar

It's not quite as good as the rearview mirror proposal for Gran Turismo, but the PSP will be getting an exciting new role in SingStar later this spring. If you've spent as much time in Karaoke places as we have, you'll know about those machines that let you select new songs and queue them up while one of your friends is drunkenly serenading. Well, a new SingStar update coming in June will transform your PSP into just such a device.

According to the official Sony online manager for SingStar, the new functionality will be called SingStar Remote. Doing pretty much what we described above, this enables you to connect to SingStar with a PSP during a game session and create a playlist of up to 20 songs. The playlist can be edited whilst someone else is singing, allowing you to queue up loads of songs to play from a list on the PSP and move swiftly form one song to the next, ensuring no break in your SingStar party. This is definitely incentive to own Sony's handheld: connecting a PSP to your console will be the only way to create playlists like these.

There is no need to download or install any special software to your PSP. Instead this works in a similar manner to Remote Play, and will require only that you update SingStar in June when the feature becomes available.

In addition to the PSP functionality, the new update will also include support for vibrato scoring, larger clubs, and improved browsing in the Sing Store.
