Sony has already made quite a splash at CES 2012 with the Sony PS Vita as it gears up for its impending launch in the U.S. this coming February, as well as in the U.S. One of the bigger announcements is concerning some of the new applications that are going to be running on the next-generation handheld.

Sony held their Consumer Electronics Show 2012 conference on Monday, headlined by none other than the soon-to-be Sony President Kaz Hirai.

Mr. Hirai did not waste any time in talking about the future of the Sony PS Vita, and some of the new features we can expect to see from it that were not a part of the Japan launch that took place this past December.

He confirmed first and foremost that the popular Sony music streaming service Music Unlimited would be available on launch day as an app on the PS Vita.

This was confirmed to be for both the U.S. and the European versions of the handheld.

This was not the only app announcement though, as Sony also confirmed that Netflix would be making its way in app form on the PS Vita.

There was no confirmation is Netflix would also be available on launch day, but it is highly-rumored to be the case.

What they did not confirm however was if Netflix would be coming to the PS Vita in Europe. Considering Sony made it clear with the music streaming service that it would be for both the U.S. and Europe, one would have to think Netflix may be strictly a U.S. application at first.

These two apps should certainly make the 3G version of the PS Vita much more appealing on launch day, as they would make great use of the data plans already confirmed by AT&T.

We will have more from Sony and CES 2012 as they continue to unveil new information in regards to the Sony PS Vita, and its upcoming launch in the U.S. and Europe.
