PSP Store to Include Full Retail Releases

The PSP will soon be getting full Playstation Store connectivity, and we have additional details on what these improvements will look like when the new system launches on October 15. Previously, we wondered how much content PSP owners would be able to access using the remote service. As it turns out, gamers will be able to download digital-only releases like flOw, as well as full, retail versions of new first-party games directly to their systems.

That's right, every new first-party title will be available for digital download direct to the PSP memory stick from the Playstation Store on the first day of its release. The full list of upcoming titles that will use this method of purchase include Bleach Soul Carnival, Ratchet and Clank, Patapon 2, LocoRoco 2, Remote Detective, Diamond and the Sound of a Gunshot, Sarugetchu Piposaru Senki, and Resistance Retribution.

So far, there has been no official word on pricing. We are curious to know whether these digital downloads will be offered at a slight discount over their UMD bretheren, due to the lack of a disk and printed game manual. So far, this distribution method has only been confirmed for upcoming Sony titles, but we are interested to know if third-party developers will also begin to offer their games through this service. Perhaps the death of the optical disk format is almost here.
