PSP Phone: The Most Intriguing Rumor to Date

It's hard to believe, but a persistent rumor that has been around since the beginning of the PSP may be finally coming true. Numerous sources over the years have said that they have heard chatter between Sony Ericsson team and Playstation over developing a phone that marries both concepts of a functional phone and a fantastic portable console.

Now finally these rumors can be put to rest thanks to a "very reliable" source (as claimed by Engadget) that claims that he or she has actually seen the device. Now, we know that this is yet another rumor, but Engadget seems very confident that this device is real, and provides some specific details about the hardware. The source in the article states its running a future version of Android called Gingerbread (3.0) and has a slide out PSP Go style Playstation controls. It also claims to have a clever touch sensitive dual analog stick system (Finally!!) Sounds like the ultimate gaming device on the go. However there are a few questions that still need to be addressed. Will it have XMB? Can I play my previously purchased PSP Games on this phone or will have to deal with a new ecosystem? Is this a PSP with a phone attached, or is it a Phone that has some Playstation stickers all over it?

Based on the rumors, I think (unfortunately) that it is going to be a disappointment. Sony Ericsson doesn't have a good track record of gaming success in the cell phone business. What I'm trying to say is that its not going to be a PSP 2 that everyone has been waiting for. It looks like we're going to have to wait till October to find out what this mystery device really could be.
