PSP Phone Scores 24 fps in Neocore Benchmark

Technology geeks everywhere love to benchmark new gear, running it up against the most demanding graphics tests possible to determine whose machine is most capable of running software that doesn't exist yet. If you are one of those people, you might be interested in the fact that 3D Mark 11 is now out, allowing you to test a handful of DirectX 11 compatible Graphics cards.

One lucky tester got his hands on the new Sony Ericsson Z1 Phone, and was able to run it through its paces with Neocore. Neocore is an OpenGL graphics performance benchmark for Android devices. It shows off some of the techniques that are possible on accelerated platforms such as 1-pass light maps and bump mapping. In the video below, the PSP Phone clocks in at just over 24FPS. For comparison, the Nexus One has reportedly scored around 28FPS in Neocore, while the Nexus S was recently benchmarked at 55FPS. It's not necessarily bad news for Sony Ericsson. Neocore might not test the kind of performance that will be used by any PSP-style gaming. The device undergoing testing is also likely a prototype model, and therefore not indicative of eventual final performance.
