PSP Big Loser at 2008 VGAs

Last night on the Spike TV Video Game Awards there were some big winners, but the Sony PSP was not among them. Grand Theft Auto predictably took game of the year, with other nods made to Metal Gear Solid 4 and Fallout 3. When it came to the all-important “Handheld Game of the Year” award, however, the PSP was snubbed. According to the VGA jury, the best handheld video game of 2008 was Professor Layton and the Curious Village for the Nintendo DS. I think that I speak for the entire video game playing public when I say, "WTF?"

Nominated but not awarded the prize were Patapon, God of War: Chains of Olympus, and Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia. We can’t imagine how Professor Layton managed to outrank the competition in the minds of judges, especially considering that it wasn’t even the best game released for the Nintendo DS this year. This marks the second year in a row that the PSP has lost to the Nintendo DS at the VGAs. Last Year it was Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass that came out on top.
