PSP 3000 Coming Bundled in North America

The PSP 3000 model will be here in exactly one week's time (October 14), but customers who want to get their hands on the new and improved model will have to buy it bundled with some other items, at least at the beginning. Sony has officially announced two competing bundels for North America: the first pairs the PSP 3000 with Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters for $199 USD. The other option is the so-called "Entertainment Pack" which includes a 4GB memory card, for the same price. When Sony eventually rolls out the PSP 3000 core pack, it will go for $169.99.

The pricing and availability of the PSP 3000 hardware sends a clear message: Sony is trying to target those first-time buyers who are on the fence, betting that a bundled system won't be too much of a hard sell. Sony fans who already have an earlier model PSP and just want to upgrade will be given the chance to do so only after the company moves as many holiday units as possible.

We are definitely exctied for the PSP 3000, but the changes are minimal enough that we are prepared to wait for a possible post-holiday price drop.
