Peacewalker is the Next True Entry in Metal Gear Saga

Hideo Kojima took the stage during Konami's press conference at E3 today to shed some light on the many mysterious titles he is working on. The gaming world was surprised this week to learn that an entirely new entry in the Metal Gear series called Rising is coming to the Xbox 360. Later, at the Sony press conference it was revealed that Kojima himself is working on a brand new PSP installment called Peacewalker. Today we were shocked to learn that still another Metal Gear game will be coming to coin-op arcades, and that Konami is planning a 3D reboot of the Castlevania series called Lords of Shadow.

With his team involved in so many projects, the auteur game designer runs the risk of spreading his creative resources too thin. However, Kojima has clearly stated that his work on Rising will be in more of a consulting role, with colleague Kenichiro Imaizumi taking on most of the direction. However, Kojima has told Famitsu magazine that he will be personally involved on the PSP Peacewalker project, and that he thinks of the handheld game as "the next Metal Gear Solid 5 inside me". Whatever Kojima eventually gives birth to is bound to be amazing, so we are extremely excited to learn that the game will be exclusive to the PSP handheld.

While Rising will be a spin-off stealth action game featuring Raiden as the main playable character, Peacewalker will be the next true entry in the Metal Gear Solid story arc.

Peacewalker picks up at the height of the Cold War in 1974, a whole decade after the events of Metal Gear Solid 3. Players will take the role of Naked Snake, as he infiltrates enemy installations much in the same manner as Portable Ops. Naked Snake and his clone army have been contracted by the Costa Rican government to protect its national sovereignty against an invading force. The events of this game will eventually lead to the establishment of "Outer Haven". See the explosive E3 trailer below for more details and gameplay footage.
