New God of War PSP Title: Ghost of Sparta

One of the best-selling games on Sony's PSP handheld will get a sequel later this year. The developer Ready at Dawn has been brought back on board to produce this follow-up to last year's Chains of Olympus. The developer promises an epic adventure which will reveal the true story behind Kratos' tragic past - and his meteoric rise to his seat on Olympus.

"It's brutal, it's bloody, and it's everything you love about God of War, delivering the action, storyline, and graphics on a portable platform for you to play on the move, anytime and anywhere." The company said today in a press release.

The game is a brand new adventure, but it is set firmly in the universe of other console entries in the franchise. With a new storyline set in the realm of Greek mythology, God of War: Ghost of Sparta immerses players in a fierce single-player saga uncovering the mystery behind Kratos' curse. Beginning where God of War concluded, Kratos, heads on a journey of discovery and revenge; a journey that will reveal the origins of lost worlds and answer long unanswered questions about Kratos' tattoo, scar and the demise of his family.

God of War: Ghost of Sparta will include all new weapons and attacks. Take up the deadly Blades of Chaos as the all-powerful Kratos, and overcome the might of ancient Greece, battling mythological creatures and armies. Unleash total chaos with one of the awesome new weapons at your disposal, and perfect your skills with a range of agile new combat moves ready for the fights that are sure to cause serious damage.

Ready at Dawn tells us that this new entry is much longer than the previous PSP game, and "will stun with its depth and scale." The developer estimates that the overall game world is about 25% larger than Chains of Olympus. It has also been given a graphical overhaul -- new rendering technology ensures that Ghost of Sparta will be even more fluid and lifelike than Chains of Olympus (and that was already an impressive-looking game for the small screen).

SCEA PR manager Eric Levine said "I can also tell you from first-hand experience that we are pushing the limits of what PSP can do with state-of-the-art visual technologies, higher resolution environments, and greater depths of scale."

We are obviously excited that Ready at Dawn will breathe some new life into our favorite handheld with this release. The best news is that we have only to wait until Holiday 2010 for the release of God of War: Ghost of Sparta.
