New Fan-Made PSP 2 Concept

Readers are already answering our call to create their own concept designs for the PSP2. One fan by the name of Nekoda has risen to the challenge and created quite an interesting mock-up for a potential future PSP handheld. The device includes two screens of differing dimensions as well as the all-important dual analog controls. While the drawings are admittedly rough, we like the idea and we can't wait to see what more of you come up with. Check out Nekoda's design below and be sure to leave your thoughts in the comments section. Or, if you think you can do better, have a go at crafting your own PSP 2 prototype.

"You are probably wondering why there are two screens," Nekoda writes. "Have you ever been half way through a level on a game, and then decide you want to listen to some music instead? Or browse the Internet with your WiFi Hotspot? But you don't want to quit your game, because you will lose all of what you have accomplished. I have a solution.

"You can still interact with the home menu after pausing your game, or even movie, by clicking A or B to switch between screens. While you're playing a game, you can pause, and click the A button on the Home screen, and then switch back to your game whenever you want to resume with the fun! You get home, and immediately hook up to your WiFi, internet, and log onto Skype, but nobody else is online, so you go back to the menu, and click on the UMD button to start your game. You will watch as screen B starts the game up. As it is loading, you scroll over to Network, and select Skype.

"Still, nobody is online. You click on screen B, and begin playing your game. After a few minutes of playing, you will see on Screen A (the Home screen) a friend coming online. He immediately pings up on your A screen, wanting to start a chat with you. You pause your game, and click A screen to accept chat, and chat with either just your built in mic, or webcam. After clicking back on screen B, you will still be able to play your game, while chatting with your online Skype buddies, and even play online with your friends, while chatting on Skype! Screen A is covering half of Screen B, until you decide to turn it on, by sliding Screen A upwards, and even flipping it upright, or on an angle.

"You will notice that there are two analog sticks in the picture, since that is what everyone seems to be wanting on the new PSP system. And there is also a touch screen keyboard, which can slide in and out. Something some PSP fans seem to have been anticipating. All of the Action buttons, and toggle sticks, are touch sensitive, as to the advantage of being able to close the PSP system, while not in use. The only buttons that are not touch sensitive, are Select, Start, Volume, Mute, Screen Brightness, Power on and off, and the L and R triggers.

"If you are watching a movie on screen B, and you just want to shut off the Home screen completely, you can just go to the movie settings to die down the brightness of Screen A, and even shut it right off.
