Metal Slug XX PSP Details
Those of us who love retro arcade games already know about SNK's Metal Slug series. These side-scrolling shoot-em-up games appeared on the NEO GEO home console and arcade machines in the 1990s. They featured incredibly detailed 2D sprites, furious action with dozens of enemies on screen at once and over-the-top environments through which teammates can fight cooperatively. It is no exaggeration to say that the Metal Slug series is one of the most important and well-loved arcade games of all time.
Now, Atlus entertainment has announced that an all-new installment in the Metal Slug saga is coming exclusively to the PSP. Sure, there have been a number of arcade compilations, but this is truly great news for fans who were waiting patiently for a real continuation of the story. Metal Slug XX picks off where 2006's Metal Slug 6 left off. After General Morden is defeated and captured, a mysterious army arrives from the future to save him. They reveal themselves to be the Mars People and their goal is to provide their future leader with special advanced weaponry to take on his enemies in the present. Classic characters Marco, Tarma, Fio, Eri, Ralf, and Clark return once again to take on General Morden and his new and improved Rebel Army.
Just like in previous games, the PSP version allows for cooperative multiplayer. You can team up with a friend via ad-hoc and play through the entire campaign.
The game also features six unique characters and seven action-packed levels with varying obstacles, numerous enemies, and diverging paths. Confident players can put their skills to the test by playing more than 70 mission-based challenges in "Combat School." With its unmistakable style and personality, nostalgic gameplay, more than 70 missions, and the ability to play with a friend, Metal Slug XX is the definitive portable Metal Slug arcade experience.
Metal Slug XX PSP is currently scheduled for release on February 23, 2010 with an MSRP of $19.99.
A true native widescreen mode would be nice, but the game looks sharp on the PSP display.
