Metal Gear Touch Trailer Looks Terrible
We will admit that we felt a certain amount of jealousy when we heard that Konami's Metal Gear franchise would be making its way to the iPhone. Apple's wonder-gadget has been the darling of the gaming press recently, scoring a number of high-profile game announcements and prompting articles with headlines like "Will the iPhone Defeat the PSP and Nintendo DS?"
Our answer, after viewing the trailer for the upcoming Metal Gear Touch game, is a resounding no. Looking like the bastard love-child from a clunky mobile phone game and a light gun arcade shooter from the 1990s, this MGS4 spinoff does not tug at our fanboy heartstrings one iota. In fact, we would wager that Kojima's other two red-headed stepchildren Metal Gear Ac!d 1 & 2 contain more original gameplay ideas in their first levels than this title does in its entirety. Better luck next time, iPhone.
