Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker Release Date

Gamers in North America don't have too much longer to wait for the next installment of the Metal Gear franchise. The game's producer Hideo Kojima is so confident in the quality of this PSP project that Konami is calling it a full-scale Sequel to Metal Gear Solid 3. although it continues on where that Playstation 2 game left off, Peace Walker features an entirely new cooperative gameplay system and a brand new Central American setting. Konami tells us that we can expect the game in North America on May 25th, 2010.

Japanese PSP owners will be able to grab the game a couple of months early on March 18th, 2010.

In Peace Walker, players will take control of Naked Snake. Taking place in 1974, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker features original game design, story and scenario by Hideo Kojima. The intrigue centers around a mysterious invasion of Costa Rica by a mercenary army, one which Snake must ward off in order to protect the world from a nuclear holocaust. He won't be alone this time, however, as the game features support for 4-player cooperative gameplay in addition to the single-player mode.

"Featuring an original story created by legendary game designer, Hideo Kojima, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker is a title that has serious sales potential," said David Daniels, Director of Marketing for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "Kojima Productions has pushed the limits of the PSP system and we cannot wait to unveil their latest addition to the Metal Gear franchise to gamers this coming May."

And of course, neither can we. For previous coverage of MGS: Peace Walker, check out some tidbits from Kojima here, and an awesome cinematic trailer here.
