Marvel Comics Come to iPhone before PSP

One of the big pieces of news to come out of Sony's press event at the GamesCom conference this year was the revelation that Marvel and other comic companies would support an upcoming PSP comic reader. The Sony reader is expected to launch for the device in December, and will be integrated with the PSN. Titles available for purchase through the system will reportedly include favorites like Spider Man, X-Men, Captain America, Iron Man, Wolverine, Daredevil, Thor, Bedingfield, and Star Trek.

It seems like once again, Apple's iPhone has beaten Sony to the punch. Today, the first issues from Marvel stories Spiderman, X-men and Ironman arrived on the mobile thanks to an app called Panelfly. The mobile reader is compatible with iTunes, where readers can purchase issues for the price of .99 cents each.

It will be interesting to see how the Apple/Marvel/Panelfly offering stacks up against the PSP reader. We'd prefer to read our comics on a slightly larger screen, although the ability to pan with touch input will be sorely missed. When Apple eventually launches a mobile tablet with a larger screen, that will be a whole new level of awesome.
