Looks as if British games industry trade association UKIE is giving its Eurogamer Expo book-end a year's time off.

In a report from GameIndustry.biz (registration required), the London Games Festival has officially been called off for 2011. The event, which usually headlines a series of trade and consumer events in the UK marketplace to bring the industry together, is still not going away for good - UKIE is actually planning to jack out all the stops for next year's show in conjunction with the timing of the 2012 London Olympic Games. No, seriously.

Or as event director Kirsty Payne says, "We really want to make London Games Festival 2012 a great destination for interactive entertainment and create a diverse group of events, we're looking to invest more into this event to create content that will encompass skills, entertainment, consumer focus, development, government, accessibility and tech events which will be launched/incubated by UKIE and TIGA." Regardless of the changes in the UK gaming event lineup, the rest of the schedule is unaffected as of this writing, the Media's London Games Conference set for November 10 and the Eurogamer Expo kicking off September 22-25.
