Leaked PSP2 Spy Photos Show 'Abandoned Prototype'

We knew it was only a matter of time until leaked photos of the long rumored PSP2 found their way onto the net. Last month we got our first look at the upcoming joint Sony/Ericsson PSP phone, and today we get our first blurry glimpse of the true successor to Sony's portable game system. These images, provided by VG247, show what appears to be a sleeker looking version of the PSPGo. But this machine has two analog sticks (like the PSP phone) and a touch pad located on the back of the device, as was previously rumored to be the case. Like the Nintendo 3DS, the new PSP will feature a pair of cameras, one pointing toward the player and the other pointing away, presumably to aid with augmented reality gaming.

One of the things that Sony engineers were allegedly still struggling with was cooling down the beastly internals in the PSP2. VG247 reports that Sony has since abandoned this sliding model in favor of a brick-like design, in order to provide more space for cooling sinks. That designs choice suits us just fine, as the PSP Go design never seemed to catch on as well as the classic shape, anyway.

What do you think? Should Sony stick with the sliding shape pictured here, or would a classic brick suit you better?
