Steve Wiebe, the crowd favorite and underdog protagonist in the documentary film The King of Kong will once again have a chance at the world record score in Donkey Kong.
The 2007 film featured a showdown between Steve and the former reigning champion of retro gaming, Billy Mitchell. Throughout the film, Steve is robbed repeatedly of the top honor as Billy and his associates scheme to remain in the top spot. Claiming the highscore in retro gaming is serious business, and record-breaking runs must be videotaped and witnessed by an official referee. The problem is that new rules have seemingly been made up and changed in order to keep Mitchell in the top position.
Wiebe was invited to play at the 4th annual Twiistup conference in Santa Monica, California on July 17th.
In order to reclaim the number one spot, Wiebe will have to beat Mitchell’s current score of 1,050,200 points.

Steve Wiebe goes for a high score in the 2007 documentary The King of Kong.
