Early reports have come out in regards to sales figures since the launch of the Sony PS Vita in Japan.

The Sony PS Vita will officially release in the U.S. and Europe on February 22, 2012. The handheld released in Japan though just last week to a high-level of hype, and great anticipation among hardcore gamers.

The Sony PS Vita released with a stellar launch line-up of games that were headlined by none other than Uncharted: Golden Abyss.

It has been confirmed that Sony has managed to sell roughly 321,000 Sony PS Vita units during its first two days of release in Japan.

To put it into comparison, Nintendo sold 371,000 units of the Nintendo 3DS during the same frame of time.

This is a very good start for the Sony PS Vita and shows that there are many gamers who wanted to be early-adopters of the handheld, a good sign for its upcoming releases in the U.S. and Europe.

The Sony PlayStation Portable, which released back in 2004, went on to sell more than 70 million units.

Sony is hoping for this same level of success over the course of the life of the Sony PS Vita.

There were 24 games in the launch line-up of the Sony PS Vita in Japan, and a similar set of titles wil release with the console in February in the U.S. and Europe.

The 3G version of the Sony PS Vita will sell for $299, while the Wi-Fi version will sell for $249.
