Gundam Senjou no Kizuna coming to PSP?

Back in 2006, Namco Bandai's Mobile Suit Gundam: Bonds of the Battlefield was the hottest thing to arrive in Japanese arcades. The pod-like game featured a fully immersive VR screen that wrapped around the player. Combined with a first-person view and 360-degree sound effects, this arcade machine was the closest that Gundam fans had ever come to actually piloting their own mech. The game even featured online network play and voice chat, allowing clans from different arcades all around Japan to meet and do battle in virtual reality. The game was so pupular that Namco Bandai continued to release updates and new battle maps for the old hardware right up to this year.

It is now rumored that the company seeks to capitalize on the success of the arcade game by porting it to the PSP handheld. While some observers have argued that the handheld is a poor choice for a port of this sophisticated arcade game, the PSP actually makes a lot of sense. The device enjoys a massive following among Gundam fans in Japan, and has a robust online multiplayer capability for networked play. We look forward to learning more about this project and we will bring you news as soon as we have it.
