Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus Announced

Japanese software developer Aksys Games has officially announced Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus for the Wii, PlayStation 2 and PSP platforms. The game will be heading to North America in the Spring of 2009. Fighting fans can expect to enjoy a new story mode, changes to the Versus and Survival modes, and an even longer acronym: GGXXACP.

"Sporting high resolution graphics in 480p, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus marks the return of over 20 beloved characters from the Guilty Gear franchise, including Kliff and Justice! Fans of the series will be pleased to find all of their favorite characters unlocked for use right off the bat, each one with a brand new, never before seen story to be uncovered in story mode," the publisher said.

With Street Fighter IV about to land, King of Fighters XII not far behind, and Tekken 6 trailers popping up left and right, this is becoming a banner year for brawlers. But is there room left for yet another 2D sprite-based fighter? It may be difficult to decide, but those who are turned off by the PS3's high prices and those who love the arcade fighting genre may want to dust off their old PS2 consoles and pop in Guilty Gear.

With fiction this riveting, who needs books?
