God Eater: Burst Announced for Japan

Namco Bandai's fantasy-inspired hunting game hasn't yet made it to the PSP in North America, but already the company is planning a sequel. The new franchise, which has proven quite popular in Japan, closely mimics the 4-player cooperative formula that helped the Monster Hunter games attract a huge following on the system. Famitsu Magazine reports that the follow-up will be called God Eater: Burst, and it will launch in Japan later this year. The first game in the series is expected to arrive in America at around the same time.

God Eater: Burst is being touted as more of an upgrade to the original than a fill sequel, similarly to how the Monster Hunter Games have slowly added new weapons, environments and prey to the basic formula over the years.

God Eater PSP boasts a mission-based single-player mode consisting of more than 100 missions, which can be played solo or with up to three teammates over local adhoc wireless multiplayer. AI-controlled teammates are also available when you need extra back-up.

The North American version of the game will also support the PlayStation 3's adhoc Party. The game also features character creation allowing customization of hair style, hair color, face, skin, clothing, voice as well as weapons using special materials.

Equipment are divided into three groups: Blade, Gun, and Shield, and each group have 3 different subgroups. One of the unique selling points of the game is that weapons can be switched easily and instantly between melee and ranged, giving your individual character more flexibility on the battlefield.
