Get Your Brain On With This Week's PSN Update

Well, now we've all gone back to school and had to put our thinking caps on, it might be time to pop in some more -- how should we say -- intellectual video games. Sony and D3 Publishers have just the answer, with two downloadable favorites that are sure to test your grey matter. Available on the Playstation Store this week are Cube ($9.99) and PQ: Practical Intelligence Quotient ($9.99). Both games are downloadable via PC or PS3.

Practical Intelligence Quotient is a quirky 3D puzzle game that was released on UMD last year. The game did fairly well in Japan, and also attracted a small following here in the States. It is a very unique experience, which has players manipulating a series of 3D blocks in order to help guide a poor trapped citizen to the exit of each level. The game got its unusual title because after clearing all 100 levels, the player's score is determined based on how long each stage took, among other variables. The resulting score or "PQ" can then be compared with others online, to find out how smart you really are. We suppose that this intelligence quotient is also "practical", because if you ever find yourself trapped in a 3D world made entirely of cubes, you will be able to save yourself. Hey, you never know.

Cube similarly explored the theme of being trapped in a trippy, 3-dimensional world. The presence of enemies in the game also gave it a bit more of an action-oriented focus, but puzzle fans should feel right at home here as well. As an added bonus, the long load times from the original game will likely be non-existent in this downloadable version.

The answer to this puzzle is obvious.
