DSi Beats PSP in Japan Hardware Sales

nintendo-dsi-xmb-icon.jpg

Thanks to a new hardware revision, the PSP has been doing amazingly well in Japan over the past several weeks. In the first few days of its release, the PSP 3000 sold approximately 147,000 units to Japanese fans, making it the top gaming device in the country by a wide margin. Last week however, the winning streak was broken by a new handheld contender, the Nintendo DSi. This hardware revision ads two cameras, an SD card slot and additional on-board memory to the familiar Nintendo DS platform. Its release had a considerable effect on sales, as Japanese customers rushed to snap up the console. The Nintendo DSi will not arrive in North America until April 2009, presumably because it will take that long for Nintendo to satisfy demand in Japan.
