Do You Use Skype on Your PSP?

psp_phone_icon.jpg

When it was introduced last year, the Skype functionality on PSP was welcomed by fans. Although there had been rumors Sony was working on a PSP phone, this was the next best thing. The voice over IP service allows you to make phone calls anywhere in the world from your PSP as long as you are connected to a wireless hotspot. Even better, calls to other Skype users are FREE, and prices for regular calls are way lower than calling with a regular phone. The only thing you need to get started is a PSP 2000 or 3000 with the latest Sony official firmware and a headset (to input your voice). Sorry those of you rocking the PSP 1000 'Phat', Skype doesn't work on the older system due to a shortage of RAM. So far in our experience the service works great and calls come through crisp and clear. Another nice thing is that all of your contacts from your PC account are automatically carried over to PSP when you sign in.

Hello Everybody! The writer should've contacted me on this topic... I'm a BIG supporter of Skype on the PSP... I use Skype on my PSP-3001 (since Sept 1, 2009) and previously on my PSP-2001 (May 1 - August 28, 2009). I appreciate articles like this one and I hope the writer of this article contacts me for much more input. - Kuya Marc, Philippines

I just got a PSP 3001 last week and i was happy to see Skype on it and thought this was great for when I didn't have my laptop running and need to call out. But when i logged in none of my setting seem to transfer on my main skype but my other account I use for computer to computer chat worked fine. I looked up the problem and found some post about deleting people you no longer talk to this work for some and not for others even if they had the numbers under 150 on their accounts. I looked at everything on my account and noted I could manage my blocked names. So I deleted all and now my account contacts show up on my PSP Skype. So if you are having this problem of you contacts not showing up try deleting some of the blocked contacts and see if that helps. I been using my PSP like Cell pone all day and it great with a & plus hr battery and people laugh when I tell them I calling them on a PSP. This is going to get lot of uses from me as I sign up for Skype for the full year for calling out. Now they just need to add instance messages to the program and this would be great. CG
