Dissidia To Feature Optional Install

Sony has already given us the option to purchase and run first-party games directly from Memory stick. Now, Square Enix says that its upcoming fantasy brawler Dissidia will feature optional installs from UMD. The install process is optional, but is designed to lessen load times when playing the game. Installs are already part of daily life for PS3 owners, and will soon be frequent on the Xbox 360 as well.

According to the most recent isue of Famitsu Magazine, players will have the option of installing either 245Mb, 373Mb or 528Mb of data onto their memory cards before playing the game. It will be interesting to see how these various options affect load times, and whether the vanilla UMD load times are unbearably long.

This is a fantastic feature, and really shows how far handheld gaming has come in recent years. We hope that other developers (cough *Capcom* cough) take note of this innovation and include sometihng similar in their future game releases.
