Dissidia Soundtrack Announced

final-fantasy-dissidia-icon.jpg

Do you like Final Fantasy? Do you like music? If you answered yes to both of those questions, then you are undoubtedly part of the target market for the Dissidia: Final Fantasy OST, which is set to release in Japan on December 24th. At ¥3,000, this music complilation sould be the perfect stocking stuffer for the Japanophile in your life. For those who have been extra nice this year, you may wish to consider the special edition, which contains additional artwork from the game and will retail for the slightly higher price of ¥3,500. The score features tracks by composer Takeharu Ishimoto, who also did the music for Kingdom Hearts II and Crisis Core.

While the practice of releasing soundtracks for games is somewhat uncommon in North America (with the exception of the Grand Theft Auto series), videogame soundtracks are quite popular in Japan. The last PSP game to receive the OST treatment was Loco Roco, whose infectiously happy music evidently struck a chord with Japanese gamers in need of a pick-me-up. Since Dissidia will feature frantic action and pitched combat between mythical heroes, we expect the tone of this OST to be slightly different. We can’t imagine sitting down and listening to a CD consisting entirely of music from an RPG spinoff, but it might be just the thing we need to cope with rush hour traffic.
