Crazy Shooter Rei Choaniki Announced for PSP

Twitch-happy shooter fans, uh, rejoice? Japanese developer GungHo has announced a new PSP game called Rei Choaniki, due in early 2009. It is a classic 2D shooter in the tradition of games like R-Type, Gradius and U.N. Squadron. The only difference between the Choankiki series and those games, is that Choaniki is totally insane.

The game, which essentially means "Super Big Brothers" in English, features environments and enemies that defy explanation. Larger than life men in thong underwear, mythical robo-beasts and giant french maids all compete for your bullets as you rip through some of the most jaw-dropping levels in video game history. Oh, and did we mention the semi-naked dudes in thong underwear?

The game has been around for a long time in Japan, having been originally released for the Turbo Grafx 16 back in 1992. Since then, there have been a number of remakes for the Playstation and Sega Saturn, but it wasn't until earler this year that the franchise made it out of Japan, with a release on the Virtual Console (go figure).

It is unknown whether the PSP version of Cho Aniki will receive similar localization treatment. The ultra curious and collectors of cult titles may want to consider importing this one.
