Assassin's Creed PSP Video Shows Combat Focus

Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines is a game we've been excited about ever since it was announced at E3. However, as we pointed out in our list of potential hits for holiday 2009, we don't yet know enough about the game to predict whether a PSP version of Assassin's Creed can work. Ubisoft hopes to calm our fears with its debut trailer for Assassin's Creed Bloodlines, which you can check out below. One thing we noticed right away in the trailer is that the graphics seem fairly good - at least on par with what we saw in God of War on the PSP. A second thing we notice is that emphasis in the video seems to be placed on combat (Altair fighting guards, killing bosses, etc). Combat wasn't exactly the most successful aspect of the first game, so we hope that either the developers at Griptonite Games have fixed this shortcoming, or that the game turns out to be more stealth-based after all.

One potential problem we can see with the stealth approach is that the PSP hardware - while powerful - might not be able to reproduce the kind of dense, vertical urban environments that made escaping from guards so much fun in the original game. The trailer is definitely nice to look at, and gives us confidence that the finished game will be of high quality, whatever direction the developers choose to take.
