Two separate analyst reports this week have both predicted that the PSP will pull ahead of the Nintendo DS by year’s end. Analyst Mike Wallace of Wall Street investment firm UBS predicts that a cut in the the price of the PSP will spur sales of the portable, pushing it ahead of the DS in the US. He says that by the end of 2006 the PSP will have sold around 15 million units to the DS’s ten.

Analyst group SIG makes the same prediction on a worldwide scale, predicting that by year’s end the PSP will have an installed base of 25 million units to the DS’s 22 million. SIG also predicts the trend to continue, claiming that the PSP will hold a 38 million to 28 million unit lead over the DS by the end of ‘07. “As the class of gamers seeking console-like gaming grows, the PSP will be the only serious alternative to Nintendo portables. In time the variety and depth of games on the PSP could attract a larger demographic than even Nintendo portables,” SIG said in its report.
