Undead Knights Gameplay Blends Strategy and Action

Undead Knights is nearing its official release on February 26th, and we now understand a bit more about how the game will work. This quirky action title puts you in command of a powerful evil knight with the ability to turn living soldiers into the undead. As you rampage through medieval battlefields, you will build a slave army of zombie soldiers to do battle with their living comrades. The mechanism by which you capture and turn living soldiers to your dark will is somewhat strategic and gives the game an added twist.

Your character has two main bars in the upper-left portion of the screen. The top bar displays your general's health, while the bottom bar shows the amount of Infernal Wrath that has built up. Infernal Wrath is kind of like a rage bar that fills up as your character does battle. When it is full, it allows your general to pull off super damaging moves that can bring a large number of enemy soldiers into the zombie horde. You can gain more Infernal Wrath by converting enemies, taking damage in the field, and collecting the souls of the fallen. Obviously, managing this resource is extremely important as it can quickly turn the tide of battle when you find yourself outnumbered by those pesky living soldiers.

The heads at the bottom represent the total number of undead currently under your control.

Zombies recruited to your army will follow you around and attack nearby enemies. But they can also be picked up and used as (un)human shields, or even swung around and used as a weapon to bash enemies. Be careful though -- the undead have a tendency to rot away to nothing after a while and will need to be replaced with fresh recruits.

We are quite impressed with how this game is coming along, and we are confident that with its unique gameplay it could end up being one of the surprise hits of the year.
