Oh no! Sega invades with a new action RPG called Alien Syndrome. Some might know this title from the Nintendo Wii console; however Sega has expanded its mind probing on to the PSP handheld system. I doubt even the Pentagon could stop this invasion which was developed by Totally Games. You are played as an Earth Command Trooper named Aileen Harding and oh yes she is another heroine without exposing body parts to save the world. All right lets suit up troopers and get ready to drop into this action packed review!

No doubt IGN said best that this is a mixture of Smash TV, Diablo, and through in an RPG leveling up ability and you have Alien Syndrome. However from what I have experienced the story mode looks great and with the comic book field with audio not really that bad but once you get past her dark past that is pretty much it for that. Let's talk shop on beginning your game, because before you start saving the world you have to pick your warrior class. I actually like this part of game the most even though it is derivative, but for a handheld not so much. You have the option of Demolition, Firebug, Seal, Tank, and Sharpshooter. Once you have chosen your class you can begin the mission or you can do the multiplayer mode where you and four other friends play in co-op story.

Now of course the only real difference between the PSP and Wii version is the controls. Now when you finally get your barring together you start to feel a bit of a cliché within the game. Looking for key cards to get into certain areas or rescue people which would get in your way lol. The main basis is to get from point A to point B without dying, but that is the normal summary to almost any game. Another problem seems to be the enemies themselves, which have no real skill except for the boss fights that you have to deal with. The enemies are too slow and sluggish that you can practically move by them easy but you don't want to do that since you need the points to upgrade your character, especially when it comes down to fights that matter. Now the next problem with the aliens is their durability to soak up damage, hence you will be pressing the attack button for a long period of time. So I hope you have strength in those thumbs.

I am finding a lot of annoying things with this game the further I go into it. Example is the variety of enemies which is slim to none. You get a nice variety of colors of each enemy but they are all the same. Environments are boring in the way of always finding a lot of empty space to go around. Except for the random spawning of enemies that pop up from time to time. The enemies tend to disappear when you run away and come back to the same area. So far the only thing that would make this game great is the four player co-op mode. Check out footage from gametrailers.com.
In closing, the game has a derivative style but is balanced by a nice story line. You have a variety of combat styles to choose from and level up, however your better off sticking with what you got instead of trying to leveling up another. The controls are far more superior on the PSP than the Wii console. Maps are too cliché and leave you yawning for something random to happen, the same goes for the enemies even though their colors change they still are the same aliens. I am sorry but for a $40 price tag it is not worth the expense, it should be at a much lower price for the quality this game holds. If anything for multiplayer stick with MGS Portable OPS or other great titles. I have to give this a two out of five. Just not all what is expected. Stay frosty troopers and keep up the good fight!
