PSP Minis Launch Title: Vempire

Last week at the GameCom in Cologne Sony announced the new PSP Minis download service. The list of launch titles announced features Impressionware's game, Vempire, and we got a first look at this Puzzle Quest clone today.

Vempire (Vampire + Empire, clever!) is a casual puzzle game with some added strategy elements. The developer claims that it is more than a classic "match three" type of game in the tradition of Bejeweled. The player will be able to collect artifacts, summon minions and collect powers to be used during the levels. Strategy will be required to tackle the various different levels and the monsters the player will challenge to become king of the monster empire. All of this sounds pretty familiar, leading to inevitable comparisons with the uber-succesful Puzzle Quest franchise, in which players match jewels to deal damage against enemies.

Luigi Fumero, Impressionware's managing director and Vempire designer, said: "We are pretty excited to have a title launched with the new Sony's channel. Vempire has been one of those titles that we have been thinking about and have been working on for a long time before deciding it was a perfect match for the PSP minis download service. Seeing the game being played by kids at the Sony's booth at the GamesCom last week has been a very high point of our careers. "

We look forward to checking out this game, as well as the range of 14 others that will release alongside the PSP Go in October. What we really want to know about is pricing. How much money do you think is fair to ask for a game like Vempire? We think that these PSP Mini games will probably launch in the $5-10 range, much like Xbox Live Arcade and PSN titles.

I'm looking forward to the PSP minis service, and this one looks to take over where my Puzzle Quest addiction left off. Bring it on!
