Straight out of Budapest, Hungary comes a brand new game that we had not heard about until days before its release in North America. The game appears to have received little or not marketing hype, but it does look fairly promising. Mytran Wars is a futuristic turn-based strategy game that resembles the table-top RPG Warhammer 40k, and it will be available in shops on November 25, 2008. The game is developed by Stormregion, a small studio known for other strategy titles such as Rush for Berlin, S.W.I.N.E. and Codename: Panzers.

The game’s plot revolves around giant robotic mechas. In the 23rd century, the earth's natural resources are virtually exhausted and powerful multinational corporations have moved the search for raw materials into space. One planet lures colonists with promises of riches, but quickly turns into a nightmare for the human colonists. the game erupts into action as they are forced to exterminate aliens that already live there. The story is advanced primarily through comic-book like cutscenes, which have a vibrant, cell-shaded look to them. The video trailer below shows both regular gameplay and some of these cinematic sequences.

During the game, the player must research new technologies and weapons to arm their giant mechas. Missions are turn-based and take place on a highly detailed 3D world map. The player selects a unit, and then designates a path for the unit to follow on the movement grid. Units may attack and capture points on the map. The game also features ad-hoc multiplayer, allowing strategists to go head to head against real human opponents.
