Monster Hunter Portable 3rd Trailer Reveals New Monsters
When it arrives in Japan later this year, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd will feature new areas to explore and new monsters to slay, according to Capcom. The Japanese software publisher issued a press release today confirming the arrival of the new installment, but details were sparse. There was also a 3 minute long video (shown below) containing scenes of actual gameplay, new quest characters and some exciting new environments.
Evidently, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd will be a partially new game for the PSP, designed with a mixture of old elements and completely new ones. Earlier, we had speculated that the next PSP game might simply be a port of the popular Monster Hunter Tri for the Wii. Some of the areas and monsters from Tri will be included in this game, but not the underwater environments. While the upcoming PSP game looks almost as nice as the Wii release graphically, the game appears to contain several new areas, monsters, and even a town not found in the console game.
Capcom says that among the major content additions, the company has improved the Felyne combat system, presumably to aid players who choose to take one quests solo. Felyne hunting partners in the previous game had a tendency to be more annoying than helpful in the heat of battle, making them a poor substitute for real human companions. Now you will be able to bring along two felyne hunting partners, for better or worse.
We are still awaiting official word on one burning question: Will Monster Hunter Portable 3rd finally contain true online multiplayer? Some sources are saying that infrastructure mode is included this time around, but we aren't sure if that equates to 4-player online hunts. We look forward to more solid details from Capcom as we approach the game's Japanese launch later this fall.
