Kinnikuman: Muscle Generations

screen6.jpg

As the Sun comes over the mountain top, you feel the rays beam on to you like a spot light showing your way to victory. Or that could be the psp turning on. Alright wrestling fans welcome to the world of Kinnikuman: Muscle Generations for the PSP. If you are wondering what Kinnikuman is well long story short it was an anime that came over shores in the early 80's. It started as a spoof of Ultraman as Kinnikuman grew large by eating garlic to defeat monsters but later became a comedic wrestling anime which later became Ultimate Muscle. With weird themed wrestler and a clumsy superhero makes a funny anime in my opinion. Click link for the wiki information.

Genre:Wrestling/Fighting
Developer:BanDai
Pros: Unique Style of wrestling moves and original style of comedic characters, Unlock many cheracters and gallery art.
Cons: Too repeatative moves will get old quickly, not enough player commentary, not enough modes to keep interest, not English friendly at all. PSPworld Rating: 3 out of 5

Just to give you the lowdown on Kinnikuman. The game is fully in Japanese so don't expect those little tid bits of english unlike other import titles. On the lighter side the game is easy to get into which in away makes it user friendly even though you can not read it. List of the fight modes below.

• Victory Mode which is dealing with you picking one of twelve fighters, after that boom you battle a slew of half a dozen wrestler to become A number 1. Reward is you unlock more characters.

• Battle mode comes with a nice selection of flavors. You have Single Battle, Tag Battle, Tournament Battle, Elimination Battle five vs. five and an oldie but a goodie Survival Battle.

• Tag Tournament is very simple, eight tag teams fighting for the tag team championship. Enough said.

The other modes involved are collection page which shows mini figures of all the characters which you unlock with the points you gain. The other mode I am not too sure of but I learned you unlock with each character you beat so I will get cracking on that soon enough. Fight System low down. This is one wrestling game that I will say has a fluid and yet simple fighting mechanic. X button is your punch and kick, Square handles the blocking, Circle is for holds or Grapple attacks, and Triangle is simply the jump button. Top R and L triggers active that special finishers, but only when the meter is filled up. Even though the button scheme is simple, I learned that the combinations can be fun especially when you use the jump button with the attack or grapple button. Does a nice attack a bit flashy but that is wrestling.

Difference in your normal wrestling game and Kinnikuman is simple. Pinning your opponent is not involved in this game. You just have to beat the character down till the health is gone. Old fashion beat downs never go wrong. Check out the screen shots below this story. One major downside is that the moves are not as vast as other wrestling games, so it will get repetitive really quickly. Either way it is still a colorful game to try with the different theme of characters. This I do say is a nice installment fantasy wrestling game same as Def Jam Fight for New York. You have a flavor of furious and unique characters, with modes of play that will keep you a bit satisfied.

Final thoughts. Graphic wise this game is fantastic very clean right down to the pain shown in the wrestlers facial expressions, even their look of victory shows. Tthough there is not much dialogue or cut scenes involved but if you’re a fan of fighting and wrestling than you already found a game for you. Easy to figure out for an import you can pick any of the menu modes and you can figure out the rest from there, no fuss no muss. Though the moves are limited you still need strategy to defeat opponents so pick your character wisely. All and All I have to give this game 3 and half PSP's out of five. More like other import based anime games it will be enjoyed by fans and fighting lovers of all kind. later gamers.
