Iron Man Review For the PSP

IronManThmb1.jpg

Through out the ages of man and machine, we worked hard in building great empires or ruling them with an Iron fist. These tools such as, vehicles, armor, weapons, buildings, computers and many other innovations sparked a whole new generation. Some would use these things for good and then there are others who have the soul purpose to destroy all. As for Tony Stark, well he is a person caught right in the middle until his own weapons were used against him. I would like to present Iron man for the PSP.

Billionaire playboy Tony Stark followed in his fathers foot steps building a huge empire in state of the art weaponry United States Government, at least that is what he thought. Soon enough he found himself held captive by a group of terrorist who used his own weapons against him. Now he is being forced to manufacture a weapon for them which will give them dominating power over any enemy, however what they don't know is Tony has other plans in mind. With a new Epiphany on life Tony's first design Iron Man suit Mark 1. It was used to help his escape from his evil kidnappers. Even though he has his freedom, he still has a lot of work to do in saving the world.

It is time now to start on your mission to rid the world of your destructive weapons. First things first is learning your new equipment which is your repulsors, machine gun, and missiles which you will be able change using the up and down D-pad. You will be able to upgrade your suit during each mission changing from an assortment of missile upgrades or machine gun upgrades that will benefit you through out your battles. As for combat you will have super augmented strength and the ability to do a pulse punch once you descend rapidly from a high altitude. Using the right trigger you perform your attacks. Fighting enemy vehicles is very interesting since you have the choice of blowing them up, punching them or using a grab attack that will tear them into bits. That works in an action sequence where you will press O to grab and hit a random button to finish off the enemy.

If you think you are going into battle alone then you are very mistaken. Your A.I computer Jarvis will be with you at all times giving you a heads up on what is going on internally. You have to remember your power source is your heart and you will need to monitor your screen for a heads up warning on your armor, weapons and jets. Using the left and right D-pad you can shift the power between your armor, jets or repulsors. If you execute these options you will give more power to one of these features which will definitely come in handy depending on the opponents you face. As an example if you put all your power into your jets, you will perform a super sonic flight move when you tap the left trigger twice and point in the direction of flight.

The controls are easy to master after a while but can be equally annoying too. You will have to use the face buttons to make Iron Man look Up, Down, Left or Right and the analog stick will be used to control the direction. Oh yes you can fly and hover on the map. The left trigger will help you perform those moves very nicely.

As you can notice in every comic book game there will be some spoilers and then the extra story that is not in the movies. The extended fight scenes and enemies that you will face in the game, especially a sub boss called Titanium man who is pretty much a push over. There are not many appearances in the game to be honest, however they do have the original voice actors involved which is very rare in most games. The cut scenes are very nicely done on the PSP game, it shows the pure potential of the PSP's power.

I know what you want to know, are there different suits? Oh yes they supply you with all the Iron Man suits through the ages, especially my favorite of all is the Hulk Buster suit.

The things that annoy me about the game is the invisible barriers, even though it keeps you in the area and you are not able to run. It is getting old to run into hidden walls and the developers tried to save that feature by adding a character letting you know that you are leaving the battlefield. The camera that controls Iron Man is a bit annoying especially when it won't stay steady trying to use the auto aim feature for the weapons. It is not that big of a deal that will make you hate the game though.

We shall do a breakdown of the entire game now. You have a cool story line dealing with one of Marvels greatest super heroes battling to save the world. The controls are a bit annoying at times but with some practice and patience you can manage through them easy. You have the option of playing in any of the Iron man suits you have unlocked and also changing weapons preferences with the missiles and machine guns. The invisible barriers are vexing at times, however they can be forgivable. With the added addition of the bonus material showing you behind the scenes of Iron Man and The Hulk game, I would say that Sega did a fantastic job on this hand held version of Iron man. I would suggest picking this up after you see the movie of course. I give Iron Man for the PSP 3 missiles out of 5. As Stan the man Lee would say "Stay frosty True Believers!" All right I added the "Stay Frosty" part.
