Harvest Moon: Sugar Village Preview

The Harvest Moon series is about to receive a new exclusive title on the PSP. Marvelous Games is currently developing Harvest Moon: Save Sugar Village and plans to release the game in Japan on March 19, 2009. There has so far been no release set for North America, but with the high production values present in the game we wouldn’t be surprised if it eventually gets a Western release.

In this new Harvest Moon adventure, you play as an emissary from the gods (sweet!) tasked with saving the denizens of Sugar Village. The poor villagers are going to have all of their land taken away and turned into an offensive amusement park unless the main hero can (predictably) grow enough crops to somehow save the day. The game moves away from the futuristic setting of Innocent Life, while retaining some of the new gameplay conventions that the team has recently flirted with (like, you know, a plot). As an emissary from the gods, you have the special ability to grant people’s wishes, and you can expect that the villagers will be hounding you with things they want once they learn of your power.

Somehow we just know we will end up doing a lot of farming in this game.

As in previous Harvest Moon games, you will have your own pad in the village, which you can upgrade with fancy new things. A television in your room acts as a kind of tutorial service, helping you build skills like cooking and planting things.

A number of mini games like chopping wood, fishing, and gem collecting, will keep you busy and infuse a bit of action into what is otherwise a very slow-paced experience.

Your godly status won’t stop you from fraternizing with the human ladies. There will be a number of potential love interests for you to flirt with, romance, and even marry in the game.

What point is it being a god unless you can hook up with girls like this?
